Why We Love Kyle, Texas
Convenient Location, Growing Population
Kyle is one of the fastest growing cities in Texas, and is estimated to have well over 40,000 residents and growing. Like its neighbors San Marcos and Buda, Kyle, TX has convenient proximity to nearby Austin, but still maintains a small town flavor. With a variety of fun things to do in and around its historic downtown, Kyle is a great place to both live and visit.
Unique Events & History
Whether you’re a long time resident or new to the Pie Capital of Texas, Kyle is sure to surprise you with its many opportunities and events. Depending on where you go, you might even learn something new about Texas history. Below are a few of our favorite reasons to call Kyle home to our third auto shop location.
“Pie Capital of Texas”
Kyle has been named the “Pie Capital of Texas” since 2018 and is a member of the American Pie Council. The city hosts a variety of pie themed events throughout the year celebrating all types of pie, including events on National Pie Day and National Pi Day.
Pie in the Sky Festival
One of the most popular pie themed events in Kyle is the Pie in the Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival hosted on Labor Day weekend. The festivities include pie baking and pie eating contests, as well as food and craft vendors of all kinds. The highlight of the event is the participation of over twenty hot air balloons. Some take flight during the day and others illuminate their balloons during the evening, making quite a spectacular sight for festival attendees.
Every October Kyle celebrates the city’s founding with a Founders Parade. The parade passes through downtown Kyle, and concludes at the gazebo in the city square. After all of the floats have passed, all those gathered have the opportunity to join in singing “Happy Birthday” to the city.
The city of Kyle participates in geocaching, a type of popular outdoor “treasure hunting” game. The game can be played by anyone with a GPS enabled device who creates an account on the official geocaching program website. Participants must follow a series of GPS coordinates to locate the hidden “geocaches.”
If you’ve only driven through Kyle briefly, you might not even realize that the city has its own lake! Lake Kyle is located on Lehman Road, and is usually open from sunrise to sunset. Catch-and-release fishing is available, as are recreational structures such as a pier and a playground.
Kyle Railroad Depot
If you’ve driven through downtown Kyle, you’ve seen the renovated Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center. The center now includes a museum and video about the history of the depot. Admission is free (per the official city website), making it a great place for field trips or to spend an afternoon learning about the Kyle Railroad.
